CHENNAI: DMK will win 33 seats (or 58%) and AIADMK will win 24 (42%) out of 57 constituencies in West Tamil Nadu, according to an opinion poll conducted by Dinamalar and News7 Tamil.
The survey has predicted that all other parties, including the DMDK-PWF alliance, will draw a blank in this region. Interestingly, in Pennagaram, where PMK’s chief ministerial candidate and Dharmapuri Lok Sabha MP Anbumani Ramadoss is contesting, the survey has predicted that PMK will only come in third with 18.5% of votes, behind AIADMK (24.90%) and DMK (38.50%).
Political observers, however, expressed their reservations over the findings.
Of the respondents in this zone, 63.6% said they were unhappy with the performance of the government and 69.7% were unhappy with their MLAs.
The survey, conducted by reporters of both organizations along with local college students, sought responses from 1,000 voters in each of the constituencies and covered all 234 constituencies in the state.
On Monday, the first part of the survey with poll results from West TN was released.
Districts covered by this segment of the survey include Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri.
In Coimbatore, the survey has predicted three seats for AIADMK, 7 for DMK. In The Nilgiris, it is 1 (AIADMK) and 2 (DMK), in Tiruppur 5 (AIADMK) and 2 (DMK), in Erode 2 (ADMK) and 7 (DMK), Salem 5 (AIADMK) and 6 (DMK), Namakkal 3 (AIADMK) and 3 (DMK), in Dharmapuri 3 (AIADMK) and 2 (DMK) and in Krishnagiri 2 (AIADMK) and 4 (DMK).
The survey included questions on the voters’ response to the call for prohibition, parties that receive maximum support in that constituency, whether they preferred coalition or single party rule and if they were satisfied with the performance of the government and the local MLA.
